Quality Assurance
Farmers Fresh pride's itself on it's high standards to ensure you receive high quality, tasty mushrooms. Here are some of the ways we meet those standards:
- After harvest, mushrooms are sent to our distribution centre where they are graded for size and quality.
- All bulk mushrooms are re-inspected by our warehouse and quality control team
- Mushrooms are only touched by workers when they are picked (to avoid bruising)
- Once packed mushrooms are put through a "blast" chiller to reach an ideal temperature before shipping. Maintaining a proper temperature of 34 to 38 degrees maximizes shelf life and quality.
Food Safety
Farmers Fresh farms hold the Gold Standard for food safety. We strictly adhere to the rigorous guidelines of the Canadian Mushroom Grower Association and its On-Farm Food Safety program which complies with the Food Safety Enhancement Program of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the international standards set by the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points.
To ensure that our mushrooms are completely safe for consumption, every step of our production is meticulously clean and safe. We sterilize our barns after each harvest and all of our workers are equipped with sanitized clothing, hair nets and rubber gloves.
We also undergo an annual food safety audit by Primus Labs which entails a micro- analysis of water sources, the environment, our production and the final product.
